James and I sometimes go to an international market to get some food or spices that you can't get at your local Smith's or Wal-Mart like harissa. The last time we went there we found out that the owner was from Egypt and he moved to the United States about 40 years ago.
We went in today to pick up some things for my birthday dinner, and considering the current situation in Egypt, we briefly asked him about what he thought about what was going on. He said that he hadn't been back to Egypt for a few years but it was no surprise to him that there is this revolution going on. He said it's definitely been building for many years now. He also said that he has had American friends have been asking him to take them to Egypt but he said it wasn't safe and that things were brewing and therefore he wouldn't take them. But he is not at all surprised by what is going on and if things don't change, he said, it's going to get worse and to expect something big.
I just think it is so interesting to have a connection, no matter how disconnected it is, with someone who truly knows what's going on and can more fully explain it and can talk about it from a different perspective. I just love interacting like that with people. I really enjoy those deeper type of conversations. It just brings everything a little closer to home.
